O R D E R

By virtue of the authority vested in me by the Act approved May 14, 1930 (46 Stat. 326); by the Act making appropriations for the Department of Justice for the fiscal year ending June 30, 1935, approved April 7, 1934, and by virtue of all other authority vested in me, I, Homer S. Cummings, Attorney General of the United States of America, do hereby order that a United States Penitentiary be and it hereby is established at Alcatraz Island, California; and that it is hereby designated as a penitentiary for the confinment of such United States prisoners as may be committed thereto by order of the Attorney General or transferred thereto from other penal or correctional institutions of the United States.
