Cargo Net Shop - Alcatraz Island - GGNRA

The Rock made other contributions to the war effort. At the outbreak of hostilities, the U.S. BLACK asked Federal Prison Industries to supply it with cargo nets. The Mat Shop, where inmates such as Arthur "Doc" Barker, Ralph Roe, Theodore Cole, Rufus McCain, and William Martin, had made rubber mats out of rubber tires for the Bremerton Naval Yard, was moved to the new industries building and converted to the task of weaving. Most Alcatraz convicts were proud of their contribution to helping America's fight against Fascism.
