Bakers - Alcatraz Island - GGNRA

Not all jobs were in the industries. Alcatraz required others to work on the dock, cleaning the grounds, cutting hair, swabbing the Cell House floors, or making meals for the other convicts. The bakery was a hotspot of prison naughtiness where convicts made secret brews using yeast, fruit juice, and milk. Among those who enjoyed imbibing these concoctions were Alvin Karpis, Jim Quillen, Volney Davis, and Theodore "Blackie" Audette. Former Alcatraz guard Frank Heaney says the bread on Alcatraz was the best he ever tasted.
