Someone commenting on another blog said, “I’d probably approve of a drone strike on myself, because drones sound so cool.” More seriously, it seems to be easy to imagine whatever-the-heck-drones-are-doing as the sort of thing anyone but an adamant pacifist ought to approve – a neatly targeted killing only of people who are already actively trying to kill us, and who can’t be gotten any other way. And so we’ve ceded a very general killing authority indeed to the unexamined and private workings of the executive branch.

At the same time, you’re right; this is a bipartisan agreement, and the Republicans sure aren’t going to improve on it. And because, on the issues where they differ, Democrats are clearly more in alignment with my values, voting for Obama was a no brainer.

Great post. I try to forgive myself for my past actions, but I need to learn from them as I go forward. Most of my actions affected only me, but the ones that affected others I’ve apologized for.

I like this. I always feel guilty and deal with my misgivings when I’m out sick. Just because you wouldn’t normally do it or didn’t mean to do it, doesn’t change the fact that you did it. If you accidentally elbow someone in the face, the fact that you didn’t mean to do it, doesn’t change the fact that you caused them pain. Encouraging people to blame their illness doesn’t help anyone.

I agree that it’s so important to take care of yourself. Don’t compare yourself to Lynn, you have two different issues. You are both entitled to love and support.

Joel, don’t ever forget that bipolar disorder is also a fatal disorder.
Last DBSA National said 40% die prematurely. But it’s not so immediate as with Lynn. But remember that 40% and take care of yourself and rely on all the support you can find.

I’m so sorry your wife and you are going through this. Since you said you’ve been trying to write about this for several months, I do hope the prognosis has changed during that time and that the cancer has not spread.

Sounds like the plot of ‘Pretty Woman’, only I don’t think there will be a transformation and happy ending with Mitt in the Richard Gere role…. Do we really want someone at the helm who only knows how to destroy the organization and all it stands for?
