Fiona is Gone….

We put Fiona down at 5:45 PM Pacific Daylight Time.

She appeared to have pancreatitis and something that was damaging her liver in a big way. It was going to cost us $2000 to have a 50-50 chance of keeping her alive. We had already put down $2500.

I think the vet encouraged me because he did not want me to lose her in the middle of my wife’s cancer crisis.

I chose to stop trying. I feel bad.

  1. So sad for you. I lost a kitty who had a blood clot hit his heart at 3:30 and was in kitty heaven by 5:30. I lost a dog who was a week past being diagnosed with kidney disease, and another dog who had almost recovered from a surgery. The last 4 months of 2011 sucked. Its hard. Really hard. Take strength from knowing you did the right thing by Fiona, and you gave her the best life that anybody could, and undoubtedly prevented a lot of unnecessary stress and pain. Hugs to both you and the Empress.

  2. Hi Joel, I’m so sorry about Fiona. Of course you can’t help but feel sad & grieve for her, however, I don’t think you should feel bad for putting her out of her pain. Just yesterday my neighbor told me he had to put his “best friend” (his dog Misty) to sleep for pancreatic cancer & he is heartbroken.
What you did was in Fiona’s best interest & so even though you knew it would hurt so badly, you still chose the heroic thing & did what was right for her.

  3. I agree with Jane. You did the right thing. I’m so sorry you’re going through all this. Sending big hugs your way.
