This is too Cute, too

I understand that there's a lot of stuff like the Bloggercode decoder. No self-respecting blogger, IMHO, would put this on her or his personal page, but if you lack self-respect, you can get a piece of code that looks like this:

B1 d++ t k+ s-- u-- f+ i+ o++ x+ e l- c

Now that makes perfect sense, doesn't it? Decode it here.

Frankly, Ganesha feels that there are better ways to communicate and there is also more important information to communicate, but there you have it.

For those lacking ideas

The If Project is the brainstorm of an inquisitor known as Terry. He writes

Long before I ever discovered the Internet, I was always attempting to trigger reactions out of people -- asking stupid questions, posing weird scenarios, questioning why things were the way they were -- and was fascinated by the different responses -- some similar, some opposite, some totally off-the-wall

Each month this inquisitor posts a series of questions designed to prompt bloggers into provocative and interesting responses. Participation is simple: just go to the site.

Weather on Your Blog

So you want people to know just how miserable you are? The Weather Channel offers free weather information to any site willing to sign up. The information is available for nearly any location on the planet, including Antarctica.

You have three options. First, you can display your local weather as a "weather magnet":

Enter a City or US Zip:

Or you can package the same information (with additional links to weather maps and current forecasts) as a link.

Finally, you can set a simple weather logo where your visitors can enter their zip code or city name for more information. You can see this on the Weather on Your Web Site homepage.

Ganesha heartily recommends Cooltext.com as a straight forward online graphics generator that will meet the need of just about any blogger seeking a quick way of producing startling good results, worthy of the best writing and web design. You can produce an appropriate masthead or a collection of buttons for your blog in a matter of minutes. Cooltext lets you choose from 52 distinctive fonts, 22 logo styles, six button types, and as many colors as your computer universe allows. The text is fully customizable by size and color. Cooltext's products are free and distinctly your own.

For an example of the "carved" style of Cooltext logo, see Pax Nortona.

Sneaking into Trackback Discussions

From the Moveable Type website:

Imagine that you write about a movie you just saw in an entry on your Movable Type-powered blog. Another MT blogger reads your entry, and wants to write an entry referencing your original post. He could just comment on your blog, but he'd like to keep the post in his own database and host it on his site.

The trouble is that those of us who use Blogger or another program other than Moveable Type don't have the built-in resource for participating in Trackback discussions. Ganesha has solved this problem by incorporating a Javascript wizard that allows you to send pings to sites that use trackback.

For more information and to use the wizard, click here.

100 Facts

If you are looking for a nice-sized project to put on your blog, try making a list of 100 facts about yourself. The object is not only to present to the world a capsule portrait of who you are, but to do it well. Facts can range from the usuals such as your weight and your astrological sign (mine is none of your business!) to unusuals like what you like to do when you get up in the morning or the color of the dress you wore to your Senior prom. The point is to have fun. You don't have to complete this project in one day. When I did it, I set up a file on my laptop and added things until I came up with the even 100.

Here are two examples of 100 Facts written by bloggers:

Way too Cute

Joel is feeling
The current mood of gazissax@best.com at www.imood.com

Ganesha isn't sure just why he gave in to the impulse to add this doohickey to his web page or what had come over his friends who thought it would make a cool addition to their pages. According to the developers:

imood helps you keep in touch with how you and your friends are feeling. It's that simple. We accomplish this by making it easy for everybody to find people, websites and books based on their emotions....We feel that it is important to remember that there are actual people with feelings on the other ends of the computers we use so much today. If we can use computers and the internet to help bring people a little bit closer, and make things a little more personal then perhaps we can start bridging the large divide that seems to separate us so often. The internet doesn't have to be impersonal and mechanic. The internet can also be a place where you come to learn about yourself and your friends. That's what we hope imood can do for you!

The plusses of imood include a broad array of faces, easy updating from your web browser, and the ability to customize the look and feel of your personal mood. The downside is that it's just too cute. Fortunately, it does not take up much space.
